4 Reasons to Start Digital Marketing Now

Here are four reasons why we recommend a focused and sustained digital marketing campaign to help your business prosper in our rapidly changing and shrinking world.

  1. You must be where your customers are

Thanks to smartphones and tablets, more and more people “live” online. They watch TV and listen to their radios from digital platforms. They read books and magazines digitally. They find out information digitally.

Beginning as early as 2017, market research companies revealed that people were abandoning the regular TV set in droves and were watching on their computers instead.

Desktop computers in turn are being replaced by laptops and those ubiquitous smartphones. According to the Pew Research Center, 96% of Americans own cell phones, and 81% own smartphones – the kind of phones that allow them to access the internet wherever they are.

When Generation X and other future alphabet-soup generations need a product or service, they will do a search on their smartphones. If you don’t have a digital, or online, presence, you simply won’t be found.

  1. Digital marketing levels the playing field

TV, radio, newspaper, and advertising/marketing outlets have been the old standbys for big businesses. Smaller companies or mom-and-pop shops typically don’t have the funds to blanket those media with advertising…but digital marketing is reaching a much wider audience and is much less expensive.

Digital marketing levels the playing field because it is relatively inexpensive.

To compete, any business needs a website, at the very least.

The website itself – which represents your business – must in turn be marketed with a blog, social media, guest posts (organic marketing), and even advertising.

Properly managed in a coordinated way, all these advertising outlets allow small businesses to compete quite nicely with their larger competitors.

  1. Tailor your brand to your ideal customer

Unlike the old-fashioned media where you’d have to wait for three months or so to see if your advertising actually worked, advertising and marketing online can be measured every day.

If you put out a digital ad on Facebook, for example, with a link to a product page, you could check that page ever hour – if you wanted – just to see just how many hits it’s receiving. In this way, within seven days you’d have gathered enough data to see if a particular marketing idea is working or if you need to tweak it.

And you’re not limited to a single ad because that’s all you can afford. If you create several “landing pages” – each one tailored to a different demographic (with different graphics and a different kind of writing) you can see how each one of those landing pages performs as well.

  1. Return on Investment (ROI) can be measured quickly

By tailoring your marketing to your target audience and sending your advertising directly to them (because you can target multiple demographics if you have separate landing pages) you will increase your ROI – or, again, know what is working and what is not working which will enable you to modify your advertising in real-time to increase your ROI.

Digital marketing provides you with information in a timely manner – something no other type of marketing can do.

Digital marketing must not be haphazard. Everything – the website, the blog, the social media, and so on – must be interlinked and work together to promote and maintain the quality of your brand. But if you plan it well, you will find that digital marketing can propel your company into a prosperous future.
